When a c-section at 36 weeks did not go as planned, Alexis and Joshua Good, along with their two toddlers, Freya and Calum, ended up at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern North Carolina (RMHC-ENC). Their newest addition to the family, Jonas, was in the NICU due to his lungs collapsing, and later, the intubations causing subglottic stenosis and eventually needing a tracheostomy tube and a g-tube.
The Good family is originally from Jacksonville, NC, and staying at RMHC-ENC not only allowed them to be right across the street while Jonas was receiving care but prevented them from driving an hour and a half daily with their two toddlers. When asked about their experience at the house, this is what they said: “Absolutely amazing. It provided an opportunity for us to be with our baby every day since we lived an hour and a half away and have two toddlers. They had amazing volunteers that made amazing dinners. They had events that kept us sane through it all. An absolutely beautiful house and landscape. Transportation to the hospital for those that needed it. Even laundry. They had just installed TVs into the rooms, so we were able to watch our shows while I used the room's pump to make milk for the baby. They had a fridge for us to lock our milk up. Every single time I needed something, someone was able to happily help me. I got stuffed animals, blankets, really all kinds of gifts for the kids. Shampoo, deodorant, razors, absolutely everything. We didn't have to break the bank for a thing. Our expected 3-day trip to the hospital turned into a lot more than we bargained for and I thanked God every day for this amazing place and the beautiful, kind-hearted people that work there (and the volunteers).”
The house was a place of comfort and love for the Good family during their total 51 nights of stay. It is our hope to be that for each family that walks through the red doors in 2025.
