Thank you for your interest in providing a meal for our families! Here at RMHC-ENC, we provide at least one hot meal a day for our families at both RMHC-ENC locations. This effort is entirely dependent on the generosity of our incredible meal groups and meal donors that help to make this House a Home.

Program Details

  • Up to 6 (six) volunteers can sign up to prepare a meal at RMHC of ENC. The minimum age to volunteer is 12 (twelve) years old. We can only accommodate up to 3 (three) children in a meal group.
  • We have timeslots available for Lunch and Dinner every day of the week, and Breakfast on the weekends. Please plan to prepare enough food to make 25-30 plates.
  • You must watch the Orientation Video and read the Meal Guidelines before your scheduled meal date.

Meal Group Guidelines

  • On-site preparation: Purchase ingredients, prepare the meal in our kitchen, and individually package all food
  • Pick up and Package: Purchase and pick up food from a restaurant, bring it to the House, and assist staff in packaging
  • Delivery: Purchase and have food delivered to the House during the timeslot of your choosing
  • Groups are required to cook all food on-site; we are unable to accept food prepared at home; however, we can accept items that have been prepared in a commercial kitchen or come pre-packaged from a grocery store.
  • All food items must be temperature tested by a staff member before being served to the families.
  • Meal groups are expected to wear gloves at all times and maintain all additional cleanliness procedures.

When you arrive to the House, please come to the front red doors and ring the doorbell. A staff member will let you in and direct you to the kitchen. Meal group members are more than welcome to park in the side or back parking lot.

All food must be individually packaged into provided containers and cooled properly after cooking. All kitchen areas must be cleaned after the meal is finished. This includes washing and putting away dishes, wiping down all surfaces, taking out the trash, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we provide the food?

Yes, your group is expected to plan the menu, purchase necessary ingredients, and prepare the meal on-site.

You are welcome to cook whatever you’d like. Spaghetti, lasagna, and pizza are our most common meals here at the House, so our families would love some variety with new, well-balanced meals!

The only thing you need to provide is the ingredients and the hands needed to help prepare the meal! Our kitchen is fully furnished with 2 dishwashers, 3 sinks, 4 stoves/ovens as well as utensils, cookware, and packaging containers.

Your group is not required to bring drinks or dessert, but you are more than welcome to! Desserts will need to be prepared and packaged on-site or bought pre-packaged from a grocery store.

Due to safety guidelines and available spaceour kitchen can only accommodate up to 6 volunteers. However, your team is welcome to choose multiple dates or timeslots. For more information on large group opportunities, please email Erin Thomas, our Volunteer and Family Programs Manager at erin@rmhcenc.org

We ask that meal groups prepare 25-30 plates for the families at our House. However, if you are also interested in providing food for our Family Room inside Maynard Children’s Hospital, plan to make an extra 10-15 plates that can be set aside.

We do not require meal groups to accommodate special restrictions or intolerances. However, vegetariangluten-free, and other options are always welcome!

Thanks to funding from the Nourishing Families Grant that we have received, we are able to cover the cost of ingredients for meal groups who choose to prepare a recipe from our Meals that Matter Cookbook! After following the sign-up link, you will be given the opportunity to choose a recipe from the cookbook. All ingredients will be here for you when you arrive, as well as the recipe sheet for you to follow!

You are welcome to cook as much as you’d like! If you are interested in becoming a monthly meal donor, please email Allie Modlin, our Family Programs Coordinator at allie@rmhcenc.org
