The Teen Ambassador Program is comprised of a select group of high school students chosen based on academic merit and commitment to volunteering. Teens commit to a service year from September – May and meet at least once a month at RMHC of Eastern NC.

This program gives teens a greater understanding of several aspects of a nonprofit organization and shows them the importance of giving back to the community.

We have established the following pillars of the program:

  • Leadership
  • Advocacy
  • Fundraising
  • Community Awareness

The curriculum for the Teen Ambassadors features content centered around these pillars, as well as seminars in non-profit management, event planning, and personal/professional development.

Their purpose is to create awareness, raise funds, and be ambassadors for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern NC in their communities, schools, and neighborhoods.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead

Applications for the 2024 – 2025 cohort will be accepted on a rolling basis between March 1 and May 1, 2024. The deadline is firm, and no applications will be accepted past this date.

Time Commitment

Teen Ambassadors will be expected to dedicate roughly 5-10 hours per month between seminars, assignments, and volunteer opportunities. Please note that currently, seminars take place on Tuesday evenings from 5:15 PM – 6:30 PM. It is important for each student to examine their schedule and deem if they have the time commitment required for the program.

Eligibility

Teen Ambassadors must be rising sophomores through seniors in high school. It is not required that the student be located in Pitt County.

Application Process

Required application documents include: Completed Application, Signed Parent Consent, and a letter of recommendation submitted by a teacher or mentor. Once the student has applied, they will receive a link to share with their recommender to upload the letter.

After the deadline, interviews will be set up with applicants with decisions made thereafter. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of spots in the program – we wish we could take everyone! All applicants that are not selected to participate in the Teen Ambassador program are invited to re-apply and get involved with RMHC in other ways.

What to Expect

  • Monthly seminars in leadership, non-profit management, event planning, fundraising, etc
  • Opportunities to complete volunteer projects and earn volunteer hours
  • Planning a large scale fundraising event
  • Connecting and networking with like-minded students from other schools
